Nice though!

Trucks are supposed to be used hard, and ususally dirty, same rule applies to SUVs

More room?

"less volume than RX, M-Class, or BMW's own 5-Series wagon. "

X5 cargo volume: 54.4 cubic feet.

ML cargo volume: 81.2 cubic feet

...and the power doesn't count for squat if you ever try to take it off-road.

X5's are good vehicles, ML's are better as utility vehicles, IMO.

Ouch.

(assuming you weren't hit by someone else who tipped you over)

Have you considered a driving school?

One day schools are around $200 and really teach you a good deal about controlling your car/truck at the limit.

hey, just take a good look at your ML and the X5 picture. how can it even compare with the X5.. cargo room.. yea whatever, its a mini - Van cut in half, of course it has more cargo room for soccer moms. but the again, i guess thats the only disadvantage you can find with X5.

Nice cars, look good dirty

Interestingly I just shopped for a second hand 4 by 4, looked at X5, ML, Jeep Grand Cherokee and Range Rover.

I pick up a silver ML430 sept 00 only 22000 miles on friday.

Very briefly I choose this car as it offered the best compromise.

X5 4.4, ride too hard, sporty sounding but a bit noisey sometimes, small rear seats not big enough for 4 adults on a long trip, tiny 540cu boot, not so good off road, good performance, good handling but only a bit better than the rest and if you want handling buy a 5 series estate, very expensive 2nd hand.

Jeep 4.7 Overlander , quite quiet, nice ride, fairly big rear seats, big 1000 litre boot, good off road, quite good performance, not so great handling on road, lots of standard kit, bad dashboard, great value 2nd hand, good looking but more workman like not quite as classy.

old model Range Rover 4.6HSE, quiet, good ride (air suspension), big seats room for adults in back, fairly big boot, good off road, quite slow, handling much the same as the jeep maybe a tiny bit better, lots of kit, old style interior, really bad reliability, really thirsty on test drive single figures Fairly ugly but still quite classy.

ML430, nice ride, big seats room for adults on a long trip in back, big boot 1000+ litres, average off road ability, quite good performance on road, handling a bit better than the jeep, quite a bit of kit, nice interior, good looking and quite classy.

The ML offered the best for what we need, the difference in handling between all of them isn't that great the X5 has the best on road handling but its still an SUV and it doesn't offer the practicallity of the others.

We need a comfy large car for long trips, power to pass on country roads, room for luggage and the odd load, the ability to handle forestry tracks and unmade roads for the odd spot of fishing or shooting.
