BAS/ESP light
My BAS/ESP sensor light on my 2000 ML320 continues to malfunction although it has been "fixed" several times. Basically, it either lights up upon starting or sometimes it comes on while driving. Has anyone else had this problem or know of a way to reset/fix it without visiting the dealer? Thanks!

If it comes on right when you start it, it's probably because the steering angle sensor is losing it's calibration. You can resynchronize it by turning the wheel lock-to-lock several times. The lights should go out. If it comes only when you step on the brake pedal, it's a bad stop lamp switch.

I had the same problem.. Replace the brake light swith and the problem has gone away.. Does it come on when you are turning and hit a slight bump and have the brake pedal depressed.. Notice these things the next time you see it come on. If so Replace the brake light switch.

The tank leaking doesn't always cause the problem, although they should have mentioned the leaky tank. Sometimes it's just an internal failure in the ESP unit, such as a sticky ABS solenoid.
