What functions does the trip computer provide? Is this the one that displays on the area near the sunroof controls?

Yes, that is the one. The trip computer give you these function: show date, timer, avg. mpg, inst. mpg and DTE and the newer one include the compass.

You can ask the dealer to do it but it not cheap, I have not hear anyone did it so I don't know how much. Most peoble DIY and you may need to cut the hole on the overhead console for the LCD, look in your owner manual to see where about the display need to be cut.

Like u said, u just install it by urself on ur M-class, is it complicated or easy? Do i need to buy special tools? the item is located near the inside rearview mirror, rite?

Functional is the same but this one is 2 revision down, it works fine up to MY '03. You need to get the compass module hook up to get the compass function to work and I don't not have the part # for the compass module, if you know please let me know.

Sorry Danny I only have the trip computer only and I don't know what is package 38. If you look in the manual under trip computer you will know what are the function of this trip computer and only the compass function won't show up because you will need to added the compass module and I don't have info on that.
