I am the original owner of a 1999 ML430 and I'm looking at replacing the tires. I'm on my third set. First was the OEM Grantreks and now I have Goodyear Fortera Silent Armors. The Forteras are actually quite good and lasted a long time. Wet traction can be better though.

Anybody have any experiences with the new Toyo Proxes ST IIs. I'm also considering the Michelins Latitude Tours. I know, I know...can't skimp on tires. But if the Toyo's are just as good as the Michelins, then i will have a couple of bucks in my pocket. How's the ride, handling and longevity?

While I read here that it should be fine, I'm considering 275/60/17 instead of the OEM 55 sidewall profile. My intent is to "soften" teh ride a little. Any thoughts on this from those who have this profile?

Did it soften the ride?
Negative impact on handling?
Rubbing issues?

My ML is at standard height (no mods) and OEM wheels.

TIA

ML500
Toyo handles good in dry and wet. My parents have a set of those on their ML320. I'm running General UHP on my ML500 which is great also on dry and wet surface. Can't comment on snow as I haven't had any opportunities yet.
