Bad key almost left me stranded now what?

After a gourmet breakfast at the local greasy spoon I went to start my 1998 ML320. It would turn over, acted like it wanted to start but would not catch. Thinking that the fuel line was frozen I had it towed to to my heated garage. After about an hour still nothing. Out of shear desperation I switched to my other key. BINGO! it started! Thinking the battery in the key fob had died, I bought 2 new ones but that was not the answer.
I am down to one reliable key, one dead one and one I had picked up on eBay that is not cut nor programed to my ML. My question to all is, can I have the key I picked up on eBay reprogrammed to my ML? Or can it be used for parts?
Thanks
Boston Mark
