Smile Why does is it so hard for the rear springs and shocks to be replaced?

I am looking to install eibach springs and bilstien shocks on my 99 ML430 but its almost not even worth it considering every place is saying it is gonna take like 6-8 hrs to do. Whats the deal and why is it so time consuming?

So you think it is just finding the right tech that won't screw you? They said something about the rear springs needing a compressor or something but i still doubt it takes that long. I want to get rims but I think it looks horrible if your car isn't lowered too. Thanks for the help though

F = -kx

in this case k is just ridiculously large hehe

anyways without having read the rest of the postings... the rear springs have to be compressed (preferably by a pneumatic mounted spring compressor) to get out the shocks.

the springs having quite a lethal force in them when compressed would suggest leaving this job to someone with the right equipment.

good luck.

found a shop that had no idea how complicated the ml suspension is and talked them down to 50usd per spring. (took them about 1.5-2 hours) so it really was a fair deal anyways.

compressing the spring and changing the shocks was the easy part. they had more trouble getting out the spring/shock assembly itself.
