2000 ML upgrade phone/NAV
Hi,
Does anyhone know if i can get my 2000 ML NAV/PHONE system upgraded to the latest 2003/2004 system?
I just don't like the 2000 NAV system and/or the 2000 phone system that was in the vehicle?
has anyone done this?

You have the MCS unit (the LCD unit in the dash as opposed to the on-top-of-dash unit for the '98-'99 MLs), so the only new change for the nav unit is the new DVD-based nav module, which covers all of the US and Canada in one DVD rather than multiple CDs. Also it has some minor changes from the CD-based one.
For the phone system, you can have your system (which is based on the Motorola Timeport) be replaced with the Motorola V60-based system, but in terms of the in-car phone system, even that is pretty similar to what you probably have.
What aspects of the nav and phone don't you like (maybe there are some ways to adjust the settings if there are some particular quirks you don't like).

BTW the DVD Nav unit is just a new module that will go into your existing MCS (where the old Nav module is currently located - behind the screen) and will cost about $1100-1200 now plus the DVD disk itself which will probably cost about $200.

I know how the newer C and E class nav systems are and i would like that level of resolution. also the way it shows gas stations and parking and more detail information. what i do like about my system now is you can actually type in I want to be in town FOOBAR at 34 first street. with the newer C and E class it gets you in that range not really pinpointed.
the phone system i do not have. but i have seen one. I would love to get never phone system based on the timeport or any phone. I hate the phone and the system which came with the 2000 ML.
so it sounds like the nav system for ML's have really not caught up yet. but the phone system i hopw it has. I have not seen the new 2002 or 2003 Ml phone system.

I'm not sure if you're played around with the settings, but in the MCS unit you CAN get up to 3 different categories displayed at all times. I always have ATMs, Parking and Gas displayed.
