I just purchased a 99 ML 430, I was driving down a hill about a mile from my house and the whole truck just cut out and the engine shut off. When i tried to start it something made a sound like it was running but the engine did not kick over until the third try. This happened once a week in the last two weeks, today I went to start it in the driveway and it wouldn't start but something was running after two trys it finally kicked over do you think it's the fuel filter? Other than that the truck runs great. Can anyone help?

a simular thing happened to mine but it was the CSP sensor.
If i can figure anything out i let ya know

Thanks! I am going to have my CPS replaced, did it keep getting worse, it only happens to me once a week.

Don't feel bad my neighbor has a 2001 ML320 and he's got the same problem and swapping his CPL out as I post this...My 2000 ML 430 seems to have the same problem...Ill be switching mine out this week too... His mileage is in the 130's as well as mine... He got his out with the 3/8 TORX socket (1/4 " might be better but you might want to try and lube around it before pulling it out...his was a bear to get out....Aloha

My ML 430 is 2000 with 185,000 miles, It has had its crank shaft position sensor changed before 100,000. I just recently changed it agian myself at 184,000. wasn't hard just need a torx socket and alot of extentions. but it was to easy to pay the dealership aroud 400 bucks to do it.
