2005 ML500 keeps killing batteries
My wife has a 2005 ML500 that consumed the original battery. I thought nothing of it as it was 4 years old and has 35,000 miles.
I installed a new battery and checked the voltage after installation and it was charging fine.
The crank position sensor went out next and this too I changed.
Now after calling my wife. [I am currently in Afghanistan] she tells me that the new battery is completety dead in the garage.
My question is: Is there a history of hot circuits or faulty electronics that kill batteries after only 2 months of service and having not been started fo 10 days?
My OBS II scanner showed no faults before when I was trouble shooting the CPS.
Will the dealer's scanner show what is doing this?
Any assistance will be greatly appreciated so that I can tackle this new problem upon my return home.

Could it be that your wife left something turned on?? Its also possible that you got a bad battery and possible also that there is some sort of draw from some accessory that would cause this. Fairly easy to check with a meter but difficult to pinpoint if it does draw.

she assures me that nothing was left running, and I am pretty sure the battery was a good one when I installed it.
I am just trying to see if there has been another scenario like this one that has plagued someone else.
Thanks for your thoughts.

I cant recall seeing any complaints about the car running the battery down on the W163's. I have on some other models. The first thing I would do is to confirm that the battery is good. Brand new batteries have been known to fail.

Open hatch or door...
That kept the door lock circuit/hatch light open & killed the battery over 3 days.
Just some pointers...
