I need bigger tires! My Dunlops on the front are getting thin and I want to go bigger. I need the largest size I can go without a lift with the 17" wheel. Is it easier if I go with the 16" wheel.

I don't think 16" will help. I believe those are 62mm offset vs 52mm offset on your 17" which pulls the rim in toward the center of the vehicle. You are more likely to have clearance problems on the inside than outside.
