Catalytic converter ?

Just yesterday my ML430 started having a fluttering/air sound coming from under the vehicle and a slightly noticeable loss of power. It sounds like its coming from one of the cats. Anyway, if its a crack in one of them would you guys have it welded or would you just go with the Magnaflow cats (its only like 80 bucks a peice) and just go ahead and get 2 of them and replace both?

You may want to do some more research (I guess that's what you're doing now!). Don't know about the 430, but don't these trucks have a set of F/R cats? As I recall, the Magnaflow units are for the rear cats only. Check to make sure which cats are bad first. I need this info also!

Im going to take it to the exhaust shop tonight or tomorrow. I'll keep you posted as to what i find. Yeah it does look like this thing has 2 cats per side. The Magnaflow only replaces one of the cats. Autopartswharehouse.com sells the complete assembly with both cats for a little over 400 bucks. Lets see what the exhaust shop can do first!

I beleave there was a recall on the ml for cat. problems.
Not sure about the ml 430. I have a ml320 year 2000 and the dealer replaced the cats. under the recall.
