Brakes...rip off??

Greetings,
Just got a service B at 20K miles.
They are saying I need brakes already....2002 ML 320.
All 4 brakes. I had a 1998 ML 320 and only need the front brakes changed at 35K miles.

I am going to replace with porterfields, but could the dealer have been trying to pull a fast one?

Also, at what point do the brake light come on (is it at about 30% remaining) and how long after will they last when it does?

Thanks
Nick

My brake worn out when it hit 4,000 Kilo. And I have to pay for it out of my pocket. I believe there is only 10 % left (you could find detail in the forum as well). Good Luck

Mercedes ML-320
I heard so much about short brake life on the M Class I purchased a set of front linings when I got to about 30,000 miles, thinking I would need them soon.
At 39,550 miles I inspected the pads and was surprised to find the front pads were 0.263" thick, and the rear pads were 0.308 thick. New pads measured 0.383 thick.
The dash light sensor is designed to come on when the pad thickness is reduced to 0.120. Therefore the calculated brake wear was 40% for the front and 30% for the rear.
That was about a year and a half ago. I now have 52,000 miles and my front pads are 0.218 thick, and the rear pads are 0.250 thick. This calculates to 37% remaining pad thickness for the front (until the sensor is activated), and 46% for the rear.
This means I should be good to over 82,000 miles before the front pads activate the dash light, and 105,000 miles for the rear. I'll report back when I get there.
I bought my 1998 ML-320 new so I know the pads are original. My driving is about 70% highway.
