M-Class Recall

Anyone get a recall from DaimlerChrysler? Apparently the M-Class from MY98-MY03 has a problem with the power steering fluid cooling hose, which may not provide enough clamping power/force for the connection. It may become loose while driving causing loss of power steering and will damage the power steering pump and could result in a crash without warning.

Grrrr...another problem on the m-class.

I received my notice yesterday. Luckily (?) I'm taking it in for scheduled maintenance Tuesday, so it'll be taken care of then.

seatbelt buzzer

Did anyone go in for the previous recall on the seatbelt chime? How rediculous is that?! The little light flashing and making a beep or two is causing accidents. Where'd those people get their licenses, Wal-Mart?

I'm Going in for my recall and other problem next week. From the response from this forum I hope they don't make it worst then its already is. But I still love my MB. Cause its the first and I'm planning to make it a family affair. Start from M then E and then S or maybe some AMGs. Unless the New 545 and M5 is so much better and a lot cheaper. Otherwise I'm planning to stay with MB for a while. Tired of BMWs for now. Just 3 years ago, we have almost the whole line up of BMWs 325ic, 530i, 740iL and 840ic.

READ THIS!

Hi Gang-

I heard about the recall from the service manager while I was having my window switch replaced.

The service guy said that he along with the bulletin he received a letter from MB stating that the factory would credit $2000 to any existing recalled ML owner towards a new one. This is after any negotiation with the dealer. The dealer does not participate and this comes directly from MB. Makes me wonder if the dealer would packet the $2000 to an unknowing customer.

I received that recall letter and nothing was mentioned about the $2000!

Since your in the Thousand Oaks area...I take it you get your MB service'd at Silver Star...how are they in regards to customer service?? Has most of your experiences with them been positive??

I purchased a 97 E320 several years ago with Silver Star...their sales have been very accomodating, but since I live closer to Calabasas Motorcars I had always used their service depart. Always good to try new experiences...Keyes & Auto Steigler have been unfortunate past experiences.

BTW: The upcoming M5 is certainly very tempting...V10 500 Hp. I'll have to wait for a test drive before throwing a blower on my E430.

Cheers

I got the recall notice Saturday. However, the clamp had already broken on my 2001 ML320 and has been replaced. Lucky for me, it happened as I drove up to my house.

Just got my 03 ML 2 weeks ago. Should I be concerned and call my dealer or should I just wait for a notice.

I think you should call your dealer and have you recall done. Given the rate of MBUSA workflow efficiency, I don't think your name made it to the list on this recall.

Is this for real? Can you confirm the claim? If this is for real, I think I'm gonna get myself an E500 instead.

Richard,
This is my first trip to Silver star for service the matter of fact this is my first trip for a Mercedes service. I'll let you know how are they after Friday. Since we are sharing the experience on the local dealership in our area how are you experience with Calabasas Mercedes? and Keyes? I was originally going to go to Calabasas Mercedes but no one return my phone call or e-mail and Silver Star did that's why I went with them. Hopefully Silver star Mercedes is better then their BMW cause they have a very SH*TTY service at BMW and that's the main reason why I switch from BMW to Mercedes. My old BMW service is in Alhambra(50 miles away) which provide the best service I've experience so far. I guess it might have something to do with I know the Finance manager there and bought 3 BMW from them.

Toni man, I feel for you. The 500 has really been bad for you. My only guess is that yours was probably built on a Friday before a long weekend!!! MY02s have been pretty good. But it sounds like yours has been very bad. Couldn't MB do anything for you? The Infiniti kicks @$$ but I think you're still a MB guy!!! have fun with the darn acceleration

Mine is in service today and also having the recalls taken care of. You will receive a notice if your vehicle is effected by the recall. Also, if I get my slip back, I'll let you know which cars are affected. Or if others still have their sheets, maybe they could check them.

Got mine fresh out of Service A today, adn they did in fact replace the part, not simply tighten it as someone had mentioned in a previous post.

Hi M500-

Sorry that it has taken so long to get back to you.

Talked with the service manager again and he once again confirmed the $2000. It only applies towards a new ML however.

Scott
