ML gas mileage
I know that this topic depends alot on the driver, in other words your mileage may vary......
But it seems to me that my ML's gas mileage is getting worse. The 430 has the trip computer which gives me an average as well as instantaenous readings. It's a low mileage ~18K MY2000 with very clean synthetic oil. I only use Chevron super (91 octane) whenever possible so that's a constant.
Anyway, I'd like to know what others all-around driving average is? Mine is reading between 13-14mpg( I took a long trip where I measured 19-20mpg at about 80mph). But it used to hover between 15-17mpg depending on how I drive. How about your's?

I'm not getting alot of replies, I wonder if there are very few 430 owners out there? Maybe they just think I shouldn't be worrying about fuel mileage if I drive a Benz.
My point is something has changed, do you think our ESP could be malfunctioning? I burned through a set of pads in 11K miles and I don't race around or carry any loads.

Maybe it's consumption guilt. ML actually better than most for a V8. V8 Cayenne's reportedly getting 11-12. Range Rover 13-14.
Could increased consuption be summer driving? (Gas is reformulated someplaces for summer driving, adds more alcohol, lower energy content, engine management feeds more per mile, possibly lower mileage). Also running A/C more?
Don't get me started on brakes. Currently burning through my 4'th set of front's and 3rd set of rears (with a few rotor changes thrown in for good measure) in 38K. It's likely not the ESP, it's just poor design.
On finding out if something is wrong with the car, good luck. In my experience, dealer will ignore/deny/lie/make something up such that they won't have to do any work. Maybe your local dealers are more responsive.

Yep, your suppositions crossed my mind too and are reasonable.
One other question, have you noticed how the trip computer shows very little difference on mpg when leaving stand still?
If I stomp on it, it reads 6-7 mpg while accelerating. If I baby it, and I mean baby... it reads 8-9 mpg. So maybe this things not very accurate to begin with. There has to be a much bigger difference in the two driving styles I'm describing.
