2002 ML500 DVD upgrade issues
Hi everyone, just finished upgrading my US based 2002 Mercedes ML500's CD based navigation to DVD and I've hit a snag. I purchased the DVD and Navigation Drive from a single source on ebay, but it is not working.
The DVD drive is a model BN5210 and A1638203789 and the serial number is 357AL521031017064 and the DVD is Command (MCS II) DVD disk version 2007.1 2006-2008 M-class BQ 646 02 26 A169 827 4859.
While the install went very quick and easy, the drive doesn't read the maps on the DVD. I believe I figured it out, but needed your thoughts. All US based 2002-05 ML's are MCS I, so I should have a MCS I disk? Correct?

It's made by Navteq. Same price at dealer. Not cheep at $250. Navteq.com is their web site.
Select the version for a 2005 ML to get the latest DVD version. The latest version is MCS1 DVD - v.2008-2009.

update, I bought a MCS I DVD dated 2006 and it doesn't even read the DVD. I'm at my wits end now. The drive read's the MCS II disk but doesn't display the map, the MCS I DVD can't be read. The people I purchased it from said that I needed to take it to Mercedes to have it adjusted to read the original MCS II disk. Please give advice on if there is anything Mercedes can do or should I request a refund for a non-working drive.

In the Navteq MCS1 2007 version there was a firmware/software update that came on the updated Navteq disc. Once installed you could not go back to a previous version of the MCS 1 nav disc. That may be your problem. I can't see an MCS II disc ever working in a W163 ML. I would try to find someone with a 2007 version or the 2008-2009 MCS 1 disc and see if that works.

Please update your User CP with a minimum of Year, Model ML and Location. That will help greatly in finding someone willing to loan you their DVD to check your ML nav.
