Rescued by an ML!!
I was caught in the middle of the blackout Thursday in Midtown Manhattan. As I live in Bergen County, NJ, getting home was going to be difficult at best (don't drive to work -- usually take bus/subway). I was hoping to pay a cab some exorbitant sum to get me home, but all cabs were already taken.
I trekked about 40 blocks up north, and every few blocks I stopped to try and catch a cab. I've got a problem with my left foot, so I was in major pain ... when an ML (I didn't get the numbers ... it was quite dark) driven by a young hispanic gentleman pulled up, and asked if I needed a ride. Two others on the street also accepted his offer. He loaded about four people in the back seat, and took us all up north. He got me a LOT closer to my destination, and quite frankly, I was extremely touched that he'd be willing to help out random strangers.
I'm posting here in hopes of thanking this gentleman one more time. Your generosity was much needed, and much appreciated. So, if you're on this board, MUCH THANKS once again!!

wow, that doesn't happen alot i guess...
but how did he know you were trying to catch a ride? I don't recognize people in the city that want to go north of town.... As far as I kinow, they could live just around the corner....
unless you were jumping ion front of the cars and begging for a ride...

This happened during the recent blackout (power loss) in New York City. People were just walking to get out of Manhatten and get home.
The guy just stopped and asked people who were walking if they needed a ride or help....great thing to do.
