Humming noise from dash only when car is on
i have searched the forum but can not find what matches my question.
I have a ML 320 2001 model (W163) is new to me :-)
Nice car but since buying new 2nd hand feel like i keep handing cash out GGRR
anyway driving car to get CAT replaced and i hear a humming,
It only happens when the car is on or when in position 2.
Almost sounds like it is coming from centre air vent? it will stop instantly when ignition is off so doesnt match ebox? but will listen to all parts of the car when i pick it up.
But if anyone could help i would be so appreciative.
Should say i am in australia
Kind Regards
If the production date is between July-Dec. of 2001 then you own a 2002 ML. Please check the small plate on either of the front doors. This is needed to provide you with the correct fix.

Cheers
Try the following, of course one at a time:
1. Remove fuse #43 (Blower Motor)
2. Remove electrical connector to Coolant Circulation Pump
3. Remove fuse #16 (Climate Control)
I removed fuse #16 and no more sound,
what do i need to replace?
thanks so much for your help.

Glenn, again we are back to the problem you were creating in the thread with the broken wires and that is you do not individually answer each procedure and/or question.
In post #4 I listed three procedures/steps to follow but you only gave me the results of the last one. I shouldn't have to assume that you did 1&2. You have to tell me.
All of this causes delays and more typing and time for me.

I do apologize and will remember this for the future with back ground and testing.
Following results, one at a time:
1. Remove fuse #43 (Blower Motor) - Humming still consistent
2. Remove electrical connector to Coolant Circulation Pump - Humming still consistent
3. Remove fuse #16 (Climate Control) - Humming stopped
Once again i do apologise and appreciate the time and effort you give.
Kind Regards
Being that you have a right hand drive truck everything is moved over to the left a little (I think). So remove the left side cover under the dash and follow the instructions to access the small motor.
If you can't access the plug directly, then you will have to remove the Trans. Module (ETC) by just pulling it out of the its spring clips and then remove the bracket.
