ML320 Rear Seat Stuck in forward position

Hi all,

I am looking for a help here. The rear seat behind the driver side in my 2002 ML320 stuck in forward position. The fold down steps were 1) pull the side handle bar to forward the seat 2) fold down the seatback 3) pull the other handle bar to move the seat down. I pulled the side handle bar first to forward the rear seat and then fold down the seatback and it got stuck won't go down. I was able to fold back seatback but it stays in forward position and does not have enough leg room.

There is nothing stuck under the seat and I can see the cable located in the front came loose as well as the handle bar. Is there a DIY or advise how to get the seat back to normal position?

Thanks in advance.

The logical thing to do is remove the seat and see what is going on. If you can't get at the bolts then you will have to remove the front seat to gain access.

Help, I can find the cable and everything everyone is talking about but the cable seems to be too long. How can that be?

It's 11 years and 17 days since the OP, and I have this problem.
I don't think there's a loose cable? Will have to look further..

Been there, done that. The fastest way in for me was to work on pulling up seat base cushion to access underneath. Please safety wire all cables liberally when you get them back in place. Not fun enough to want to do twice. I probably posted about it either on this board or the other one...

I've had various issues with the rear seats. If I fold the back of the bench seat down, then sometimes it gets stuck down, but pressing hard on the back of the seat below the head rest and to one side a bit seems to release it. Other times the bench seat won't fold down to the floor, but that is just a loose cable underneath which I can pull with one hand while operating the levers with my other three hands and pushing the seat down at the same time - you just need to be an octopus.... One day I will get around to taking out the bench seat completely and fixing it! The 1/3 folding seat went and broke the loopy pull handle off, so that is trickier to fold now, but will go to the floor okay. Most seat problems seem to originate with folding the seats to the floor with something still under the seat, like a shoe or something fairly small, which damages a cable.
