Looking into buying a 2005 ML500 SE
Local MB dealer is selling a 2005 ML500 Special Edition for $15,800. 64000 miles. Edmunds/kbb when i checked had it valued at 13000 to 13,800, at best. So I made a tentative offer, pending them getting back to me on the maintenance history, what needs work, what % brakes are at, and a few other questions. I'd like to take the car to at least two places to get inspected before I'd purchase it as well.
My brother is vehemently against me buying an ML. Too costly for service, repairs, etc. My parents had an SL and ML when I was growing up, and my dad had to drop 15k into his SL over 3-4 years (repeated blown head gaskets, etc) and my mom's ML probably had everything go wrong with it (2000 or 2001 model)
A 3 year aftermarket warranty through USAA would run me $4600.
Cosmetically, its in beautiful condition. Some tiny paint chips on the hood, that should be easy to take care.
What are your thoughts? Am I likely in for a headache? Personal experiences? I need a solid car for 4 years with minimal issues, lasts for 6 years or more, and something I'm not throwing money into left and right
(My main reason for looking for a car is that my current 2003 Focus (which I got for $7000 in 2005 with 11,000 miles on it) is getting to the point where repairs are adding up to the remaining value of the car and I don't want to put in more than the cars worth.)
Thanks!

Pulled the carfax since the MB dealer didn't have a free one listed. Looks like the car went from 50,000 miles to 14,000 in one inspection. Suspected odometer roll back? Then it was sold as a CPO. So in reality, the car has about 114,000 miles on it.
