Angry Oil Consumption

My 2002 ML320 has started to experience serious Oil Consumption problems in my opinion, but according to my dealer it is "Normal" for the ML to burn upto 1 qt of oil every 600 miles.

I checked my FSS and it says that my next service is due in 6500 miles, so does that mean that MB thinks it is reasonable for me to have to potentially add 10 qts of oil. Are they serious!!!! I thought Mercedes Benz meant I was getting an automobile that was built to the highest engineering standards not a piece of s#$%!

I'm sorry but am I the only one that thinks that this doesn't make any sense?

I understand that MB just settled a class-action lawsuit that had something to due with the type of oil that owners were using, but I don't know if this issue is covered under that lawsuit. Based on my search of this board it appears that there may be enough individuals that are having this same sort of oil consumption problem that we may want to consider filing another class-action lawsuit against MB.

Does anyone agree with me.

our 99 ML430 was taking about 2 quarts every 3000 miles...they said that's normal. never had any other problems with our other cars...but lately, the oil light hasn't come on.

That's a bunch of crap. My new ML500 and my 98 ML320 never used any oil. Your burning it or losing it somehow. For your service manager to suggest that this is normal is simply dishonest.

Take it to another dealer. If you can't walk into the highest up person's office that you can find at that dealership and tell them that you won't have your intelligence insulted. Get hard with the SOB's

Post the dealerships name on this site so that we may all be advised to stay away from them. Keep us posted. This board has been very helpfull on how I deal with my dealership.

they did a oil consumption test and everything...to see where the oil was burning off and couldn't find anything. they even installed a "special" dipstick to monitor the oil level after 600 miles of driving so they can see how much was burned, but according to MB, all within normal specs...ugh.

Angry ML-430 Oil consumption

My '00 ML430 has 52k miles and is using about a quart every 1400 miles. Mercedes tells me that it is normal to use a quart every 630 miles. I understand that before they lost the previous class action suit, the amount was up around 1quart per 3000 miles.

Maybe they need another class action suit to make them change it back???

I have a '92 190e 2.6 which has 183,000 miles on it and which uses only 1 quart every 3500 miles. Silly me for expecting more than this from the same company?
