2007 ml320 cdi transfer case

My local mercedes dealership recently informed me that my transfer case needs to be replaced. Total cost installed is $6,055. Is this a reasonable price? Would a rebuilt transfer case be a viable alternative? Is it safe to drive the vehicle before repairs are done?

You are in a wrong forum. THIS IS w163(1998-2005)
But to answer your question I would go to a independent indy for a second opinion. I am sure if you really need to replace the transfer case , you can pick one up from a junk yard next to nothing & replace it yourself.
Good luck

Thanks for the information. Sorry about posting in the wrong forum. I'm new and learning the rules.
