not another "check engine light" thread!!
can't get to the dealer until Dec 30th!! If it goes out between now and then should I just forget it?
Is it OK to be driving her this whole time with the light on?
can I be causing any damage? What should I be looking for?
Could it have just been a coincidence that I was hammering her in the snow when the light came on?? The service rep seems to think the two are unrelated! I disagree...thats why I am so nervous. If the light came on at anyother time then I wouldn't worry...but she was slipping and I kept gassing!!
well I guess it had to happen to me sooner or later....two days ago, after the big snow,I was trying to park my truck on my front lawn. Its on a slight hill and there was a good size snow bank. I got the truck halfway up into the spot and my tires started to spin....so I hammer the throttle to get it going and my check engine light comes on. The truck runs fine.
If the ML has a sensor before and after the cat ( I think they do) and you introduced an exhaust leak or ripped the sensor out completely that would pop the CE light.
If it is the O2 sensor, will the light go out by itself? does this damage the truck?
I think I found a pattern...of course hasn't happened enough for it to be a pattern. The light seems to come on the very next day after a fill up at a gas station. I know the gas cap can cause the light to come on, so I think this must be it. There is no sound difference coming from the engine. The light did go off after about a week or so....just as someone else on this board said...the computer has to cycle so many times until it shuts the light off.
