2002 ML500
Warranty Work

Fortunately or not my first post seeking advice. My 02 ML500 is currently in the dealer with a coolant leak. Told it was a coolant hose and replacement $280. Steering feels unassisted when quickly shifting from one direction to another at low speed. Fuel guage reads inaccurately after fillup but computer does calculate usage correctly( supposedly fixed last year) but now a software upgrade will fix issue at $200. Lastly new rear brakes squeal horribly while stopping in reverse only. Nagging problems but I wonder if these are common to the vehicle. Any comments as I look to make the decision to cut my losses or not?
Thanks

I apologize for ommiting the mileage. Im at 64,000 and now being exposed to what the extended warranty covers and does not is the reason for concern. I do also appreciate the recomendation to use anther dealership. That was part of my frustration as well. The service manager actually asked my wife "If she had thought about havinging it serviced at the dealership that we purchased it from. I thought with purchasing this marque that I was buying into a superior experience from start to finish. For once I am looking foward to receiving the satisfaction survey.

how many miles are on the vehicle? All these issues should be covered by warranty if under 50k miles, except possibly the brakes. I have seen coolant leaks on the 02 ML500s, probably the radiator. A friend also had an issue with their power steering, dealer took care of it... although when turning the wheel extremely quickly on any car it will tighten up somewhat just because the pump isnt strong enough. The software upgrade should also be free under warranty. If the dealer you go to wont do the work for you I suggest trying anohter dealer and reporting your current dealer to MBUSA.

Everything you mentioned including the brakes should be covered by warranty if under the mileage limit. My 02 ML500 had six complete sets of pads and rotors to eliminate the squeal, also in reverse. It was the 6th set that cured the problem as MB had come out with an updated pad to correct just this problem. It carries a different part nimber than the original.
