2000 ML430 Brake Pad and Rotor Problems

I own a 2000 ML430. Have had a lot of problems with the brakes:
1) The rear brakes started squeaking at around 15,000 miles. The pads were worn down to metal but the sensor light never went on. The rotor was damaged and had to be replaced. The dealer said it was normal wear and tear and therefore I would have to pay, without an explanation as to why the sensor light never went on.
I explained that, based on the law of physics, the front brakes should go out before the rear. He said that wasn't necessarily the case because of the active 4-wheel drive system.
Probably realizing that there was a defect somewhere (without acknowledging it), dealer finally replaced rotors without charge.
2) Today I went in for a regular service at 24,500 miles and was told that front rotor is worn down to the point of replacement, but again pad sensor never went on. Was told that the front pads will need replacement in near term and recommend replacing now. I asked how rotor can wear faster than pads and was told that it is nothing out of the ordinary. At this point, dealer is not willing to replace rotors without charge.
It seems unlikely that firstly, the rear pads would go prior to the front pads and, secondly, that the front rotor would go out before the pads.
Any similar experiences or comments? Much appreciated.

All V8 ML's have brake problems, premature wear and squealing. This was told me by an MB Rep after they replaced the rotors and pads on my ML500 at 4000 miles at N/C. MB is supposedly working on a fix

hi just got mine 00 ml430, and love it so far.
i have a couple questions? do not have the phone and i am considering getting one? where does it go? and how is it connected?
i have driven some other vehicles in relatively the same class... and my brakes are a bit more softer than those....
i know they have been changed byt the previous owner. so i am curious to heard the comments here...
thanx

It's about time MB did the right thing by
us V8 owners and owned up to the fact that ALL V8 ML's have suspect brakes in terms of premature / abnormal pad and rotor wear.
I'd be very surprised to hear of anyone getting 40,000 miles plus from the rotors unless they spend all day on the freeways :-)
Most commonly pads and / or rotors are required to be changed at 20-30,000 miles. And probably at circa 30,000 mile intervals thereafter at $850 a pop for pads & rotors....
Lets hope they get this fix out soon.
