You need to clarify what exactly you are looking for...
I categorize front grill guards in three distinct categories...
1. Bull Bar or an A Bar offer minimal protection, only serves to enhance the looks and possibly install fog lights..
2. Grill Guard only protects your bumper front end.
3. Brush Guard or a guard covering the whole of the front (like the one from Manik) offer the most protection.
1. Bull bars are the smallest in size and run in the range of $300-400. performanceproducts.com has them..
2. Grill guards offer decent protection and run in the $600-900 range. You can either purchase MB OEM or different after market styles. MB only offers the grill guard..not any of the other types.
3. Brush Guards are the largest in size and will easily run $1000+ especially the chrome ones...they offer the most protection...but to me personally, they are not appealing.
So, you first need to be sure of what you are looking for and then look for it.
I will have to do some searching on the web, but if you are still not clear, I can post all the three pictures to show you the difference between the three.

Brush guard
The factory stainless one is a nice piece --retail is about $585. Installation is somewhat involved, because it has two struts that penetrate the front bumper cover. I mounted Hella FF200 chrome fogs on my '98 and it looks sharp!

I just did a DIY install of the factory grill guard..
Yes, I agree it is a bit involved, since it attaches to the frame of the car in a bit weird fashion...irregular on the two sides...but I too like the factory OEM one...other's don't appeal me..
If anyone needs help installing one of these let me know...I can post the steps and pictures.

That 2002 OEM one is the BEST looking grill guard for an ML, only problem is...I have a 2000 and my dealer says that the one pictured above can only be installed on a 2002 or newer...those of us with the older model ML's are stuck with the lame one that isn't angled like that. I am basicillay giving up, because the one that I can get is not at all good looking....
see here for the ugly one we have to get for a 2000:

yeah...maybe it's me but it looks even worse with those lights...the above one looks beautiful, but the 2000 model looks cheap and 1980's...
Oh well, someday I can afford the brabus guard or something with as much style as the 2002 OEM one.
