ml500 wont sit in D slot on the gear selctor console.

ml500 wont sit in D slot on the gear selctor console.
My shifter wont sit in the D slot. It sits between N and D. I have to pull hard on the handle to get the instrument cluster to reflect D and then the car with go into drive. Maybe the lingae is mess up or the module itself? Anyone help me with things I could try?
