Siren Noise when Accelerating ML 270 CDI
Guys I'm quite a ''newbee'' to Mercs and know not much about Diesel vehicles.
I have an ML 270 CDI 2001 A/T.
Last week while driving, AC went from cold air to just air and for the first time I noticed a loud police siren noise, only when accelerating. The noise is quite embarrassing and goes away as soon as I take my foot off the accelerator.
If I have the car in neutral and accelerate, the siren noise is not there but there is a humming/whining noise which is not as loud as the siren noise.
I took the car to a local mechanic. He assessed and said that the noise is because of the exhaust manifold gasket. After replacing this at a large sum of money, the only thing that has changed is that it feels like the turbo boost has improved however the noise is still there unchanged.
Please can you point me in the right direction here because I feel that the local mechanics will try and make as much money off me before getting to the actual issue.
