Question Quality problems with X5???

I need your help....I have a friend who wants to buy the BMW X5 and he asked me for advice, I can only give him feedback on the MLs. I've heard the X5 is also having quality problems similar to ones MLs have experienced...Do you know of any websites/forums that would give me any information on the X5? Or, if you own one, how do you like it? Would you recommend buying one?
Thanks....

Stock, MusFather,
Thanks for the info. My friend is actually thinking of buying the car. He actually resides in Honduras, and he will be getting the Diesel engine, which US does not get. Once again, thanks for the info...

While the ML does have its own quality issues, I can say with some certainty that, unlike the X5, the ML has never burned somebody's garage down to the ground.

I haven't had any problems with my X either. I hear the diesel engine is well built.

Well, that only happened on the 3.0i I believe. Not the 4.4i or the diesel.

X5 to small

X5 is a great looking car and it seems to have plenty of poke...

I have had eight SUVs/4x4 and often have rentals/hire cars when working outside the UK.

Working in Germany (TV Film Crew) at the end of last year Hertz offered me an X5... great I thought.. so my crew made its way to the parking lot to load our four selves and equipment flight cases.

So very dissapointed were we all when opening up the X5 to find out there was very little luggage space. Furthermore because the X5 had a ful size spare wheel under the loading floor, the height of the loading floor was just inches below the window line.

Also Hertz only offered a 4.4 petrol because they said BMW diesels were very new to both BMW and Hertz so they had not commited themselves yet.

So if you don't want carry much luggage and your not bothered by the type of people that drive BMWs then yeah go for it...

Oh yeah.. we swapped the rental X5 for a Ford Galaxy with Hertz in Germany... and I got all four people and the luggage in my ML travelling to the airport. Chrysler Voyagers make crap rentals as well, because you can't leave the rear seats anywhere.
