The spark plugs came in pre-gapped. So all I had to do was install it. Fired off good after the install. I even have an increase in mileage. I am still waiting for my rebate check.

another hint

I did mine today but did not have to remove the coils on the passenger side. On the driver side, you must remove the coils else you have no chance removing the boots and spark plugs.

thanks for the rest of the write ups, very very useful. It took me 1.5 hr also.

Don't use anti seize

The plugs are trivalent plated and anti seize screws up torque values, and one drop on the electrode can fry a plug.
A late addition to the guy using a 17mm open end.If you use the 17mm special spark boot tool Mercedes uses at the shop you have no worries getting at the metal boots at the proper angle.

17mm special spark boot tool Mercedes
16mm thin walled spark socket
Mechanics gloves
security torx bits
swivel joint
short extensions
Magnetic pick up wand (for the stuff you drop)
Fender blanket
Use the hood release to go full vertical

question on grease /ant-seizing..

All - i understand that this is an old post but have questions on what grease/silocone/di-electric product to use.

1. I want to stay away from WD-40.
2. It looks like I need to put some kind of grease on the boot of the sparkplug wire. What should i use here and in what form? Silicone grease is sold in paste and spray. I'm inclined to buy the silicone grease is paste/tube. Do i just put some of this on my finger and "paste" it on the boot of plug wires?
3. I read about anti-seizing paste. Where does this go? On the 20+ threads of the sparkplug?
4. what needs to be di-electric? The anti-seizing paste, the silicone grease or both?

Please help me by the right greasing stuff so that i don't damage the engine.

thanks in advance,
maneesh

Nothing, absolutely nothing is supposed to be put on the spark plug threads.

A very small amount of dielectric grease should be applied to the insulator of the spark plug, but not on the terminal. This will make it easier to install the boot and easier to remove when needed

Did this today at just under 3 hours got hung up on the 5th plug facing the firewall driver side that ate up some time.

A few thoughts, you need the 3 inch and 4 inch extension.

A little cut up, the gloves are a great idea.

Start passenger side.

Broke one plug, as others have said, the boots should pop off, having a shorter and longer 17mm is helpful, used a wine cork to get some better leverage on no. 5.

As I understand the coil packs are interchangeable and they have a tiny diagram impressed on their sides that shows proper re installation of the two boot wires.

I used the OEM Bosche plugs with the light blue stripes on them, same that I pulled out. Old plugs just looked very dry and for sure loss of gap otherwise just old plugs.

126,000 miles and purrs like a kitten.
