Oil Level Warning light is on

My vehicle is a 2003 ML500 and I have an ‘Oil Level Warning’ light (Oil Level Warning.JPG) that comes on 15 to 30 seconds after started. I do not have a ‘Check Engine’ light and the oil level is proper (not to low and not over filled). I would like to note that I have only had this vehicle for a couple of months and the dash indicated that it was 35000 miles since the last oil change. One of the first things I had done to this vehicle was to have the oil changed. The mechanic that changed the oil said there was not too much sludge or gasoline in the old oil. Prior to the oil change the Oil Level Warning would come on at 5 to 10 seconds after started. So, changing the oil did help some.

I have the following codes:
- P2040-008 [8] B40 (Oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality)): : Signal implausible ( Oil quality ) / Line mixed up
- P2076-008 [8] B40 (Oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality)): : Signal via hardware line / Signal implausible
- P2039-008 [8] B40 (Oil sensor (oil level, temperature and quality)): : Signal implausible ( Oil level ) / Line mixed up
I got the code description from the following document – ECM Codes 2.8 Alldata #2.pdf

So, here is my question, using the ABC diagram below, is component B40 in that diagram my problem or am I ‘barking up the wrong tree’?

Thanks in advance for the support and help!

What exactly are you asking? If the CEL is still on you have to erase the codes and go from there.

No the CEL is off (and I know the CEL is operational) it is only Oil Level Warning light that is on. But still have the following codes on a scan:

- P2040-008
- P2076-008
- P2039-008

My question is what is the most likely the cause of these codes?

I am assuming they are all generated from one problem. And I am leaning towards the B40 Oil Level Sensor. Would I be correct?

Have you tried to delete the codes in the ECM with a scanner?

If you have and the Oil Light returns along with the codes, then you must replace the sensor.

Yes I have deleted the codes several times and the OLW light still comes with the same codes. I will try replacing the Oil Level Sensor and see if that resolves my problem. Thanks for the help Maj. Dundee.

You know that you have to remove the oil pan and there is no gasket so special sealant must be used.

You do not want to do this procedure twice so I strongly suggest you purchase the sensor and the Loctite from the dealer.
