Jerky transmition when put in drive

I have 2006 ML350 with 50k miles. The car recently started jerking violently forward after being placed in Drive. Same thing happens when gear changed to reverse and park. Yesterday the car went thru the same motion however it can no longer change into 2nd gear. Odometer revs up but the gear wont switch to 2nd. There is also a noise coming fromthe engine. At this point i cannot drive it to the shop and will need to have it towed.

I would prefer to avoid paying $300 for towing the car. So my question is, where do i locate the transmission fluid tube to check the levels. Perhaps if it low, i can add and drive the car to the shop.

Thank you for your help

You are on the wrong forum. First check your motor mounts and trans. mount.
