I would recommend doing a intensive inspection for any leaks. I had a leak from my front dif which started shortly after 100K on 98 320 that required replacement of front dif, cost approx 2500.
I had a previous leak at around 75K from different location that was covered by extended warranty which would have cost about 1500 to repair.

Zeke,
Why did Mercedes replace a leaking front diff? Wouldn't it just be a seal kit? How many other owners with 100k miles needed a front diff replaced because it leaked? This is worrying me that I may need to spend $2500 on a 100k mile vehicle.

front dif
The front dif fluid that was leaking had metal shavings in it (not a good sign) and I had some vibrations and noise (seems I ignored the problem too long but in my defense I thought it was an oil leak).
I was also told the front dif was a sealed unit and had too be replaced whole, but I did not put much faith in this comment and relied upon presence of metal shavings in front dif for decision to replace. Total cost was $2358 (minus 10% discount from dealer for such a big job).
And in reality it was $3400 total after I had right rear wheel bearing and along with drive shaft bearing replaced (again, seems I ignored the problem too long).
The previous leak that was covered under Starmark at 82K miles was from the drive pinion seal. I was told it would be about $1500 to fix in absence of Starmark for a seal the cost $2 (very labor intensive).
Only other post-Starmark problem was belt tensioner replacement $523 (making too much noise to tolerate).
One other minor issue I had right after Starmark expired was replacement of driver side front power window switch. This cost $139 but is probably a do it yourself type job (I was in a bind for time so I had the dealer do it).
Currently I have 115K on vehicle and owe more than it is worth (I drive 40K miles per year) so I will be holding on to it for another one to two years.

Thanks for the response Zeke. I just had my LF bearing Starmarked and my RF is now going out. I have 66k and my Starmark ends in Aug 04. I plan on keeping the ML till atleast 100k mi or until these expensive problems start popping up.
