kostas, sorry to hear of your troubles. There's nothing worse than an unreliable vehicle.

Here's the part no of what they replaced:
W 1635454132 IGNITION $479.60

After replacing this ignition part he had it sent to the dealership. I don't think he diagnosed the problem correctly.. but I wasn't paying for the repair so I didn't balk. The explanation was that he had to have something reprogrammed, however the mechanic at the dealership left the baggie with all the requisite info on the seat. When I called the dealership I found out that the mystery part (#A0031539528) was a crank position sensor, cost: $105.00 (+an additional $313.25 to install it).

Was it a faulty Ignition AND Crank Position Sensor? Doubtful, but you never know.

Total invoice cost of fixin' the vehicle: $945.85
Cost to me: $00.00 (thank God for warranties)

Hope you can get it solved.

MM

UPDATE- ok after that week at around the end of June.. they fixed the problem.. no more car starting problems.. up until this weekend... car doesnt start, car gets towed to rallye mercedes.. and they finally are 100% sure about what the problem is.. water was getting in from the sunroof... was getting into my car and into the fuse box.. and they are telling me they are drying it, and will try to start it in 2 days.. if the car doesnt start... then i have to wait 1 month for them to order the right parts.. you cant begin to understand how frustrated i am

If it was me, I would just get another car. No sense in letting this frustrate you so much....
And yes I have been there, and I did trade it for a new car.

Have a little different Question regarding Starting..You start your ML and drive and all of a sudden there is say a Traffic Jam or something and instead of IDLING you switch it off..(to save gas or noise)..But you dont turn the key all the way off as you are listening to the CD\TAPE\RADIO .
Now the traffic Starts moving so you want to start from same Key position you were listening to the CD\Tape\Radio..ML wont Start....
YOu have to turn the Key all the way to LEFT as if you are taking the Key off of the Ignition and then Turn it all the way right...then ML starts..

IS THIS normal ? ......I drove other car's suv's they dont do this... any Ideas ?

TIA

All benzes are like this. Its a mechanical lockout to prevent you from engaging the starter while the engine is running. You have to shut it off and then engage the starter.
