My hobby is visiting pick-n-pull yards looking for parts for my ML. I’ve noticed a disturbing trend in wrecked MLS where the side airbags, as well as the front passenger bag, do not deploy. I’m talking about MOST of the ones I find are not deployed despite damage in the immediate area (ie, impact on driver door, no airbag deployment for that door. I’ll start documenting them. I’ve attached one example.
You have no knowledge as to what circumstances occurred during these accidents. Side air bags will only deploy if there is a side impact. Head-on collisions will not deploy the side bags.
No deployment of either bags could be that the veh. was parked.
