Mercedes M-class?

Hi,
I would like some advise. I currently own a 1998 S280, but due to a large family I need more seats. I am considering buying a M Class (with family pack), but have heard that they are not well made, especially the earlier ones (1998-2000).
Can some one please give me advise on these vehicles, as I dont know much about them.
Also which is the best model?. I will not be taking it off road.

Many thanks
Amolak

I owned a 98 ML320 and then in late 01 purchased an 02 ML500, Both were very good with the ML500 having lots more features and toys plus a plushed up interior. You can't go wrong with a low or average mile ML. I would suggest for you the 320 and as late a model year that you can afford. Perhaps an 04 or 05 ML350 would be nice, new

M-Class quality

My '98 had initial small problems, but all were corrected by the dealer and the vehicle has been very reliable since. It has high utility and handles most conditions, including snow, well. I would recommend buying the newest one you can afford (2002+) as many small issues were addressed later in production.

I am on the waiting list to buy the all new one coming out next year.
