W163 - Help to identify OEM side step bars

Hi,

Looking to install the OEM side step bars, or side rails they might be called. I found a nice used set (see pictures) but i wanted to make sure they are the OEM Mercedes version, as there are many after marker versions too. These ones say Mercedes on the black plastic parts, but then it says "ORIS" on the mounting bracket, so my first question would be are these OEM Mercedes? The second question is i am going to install these on my ML55, and while i have not seen these on a ML 55, would they fit across the W163 line?

thanks for some help on this

.

This nerf bar is an oem part for the ML320 ML420 ML500 w163, 1998-2005.
Only the rocker panel covers on these model MLs differ from that of the ML55 AMG. Straight cut vs slightly flared at the ends for the ML55 due to the flare kits on this AMG.
(I mounted the ML55 rocker panel covers on the ML500)
They should fit.The part # of the steps are # 1628900032. Front bracket left side is part #A163890054 and front right side is #A163890064.
Check these part #s against the ones in the photos. You should be good to go.

Why dont you go with Aries nerf bars? Good alternative, they fit nicely along the rocker panel covers and best of all, lifetime replacements for the side step pads.

Got the bars, final questions..

Thanks for everyone helping in this thread!

I got the OEM bars for $100 for the pair, which is a good deal i think.

Some help still needed. Anyone that can help with the 4 question below that would be amazing!

1. I am missing one bracket, I think its the driver rear? The other brackets only say ORIS on them, i layed them out as i think they would fit.
2. Anyone have a WIS manual on how to install? i think its easy, just wanted to know which side the bolts screw in etc.
3. There are 4 long bolts that came with it when i bought it second hand, where do these go? might not even be related?
4. 4 top plates, number is A163 891 0011, where do these go?

images (tried to add here, but doesn't seem to work to add pics today on the forum, link below to what i am asking)

$100 seems like a good deal....however,
imo, I'd never buy used unless it's a 100% complete set or I have a backup source of possible needed parts before hand, for the purchase of this type.
unfortunately, no money savings here... when you still need to scavenge for the crucial parts.

Here is the oem install, but yours does not look like it matches this attached pdf.

BTW, Oris Automotive (oem supplier) went bankrupt over 12 years ago. GL finding replacement parts (other than the local JY - looking for a needle in a haystack)
Should have gone with Aries as suggested. Still very much in business and FREE LIFETIME replacement parts (step pads, etc) and they are easy to install and fit nice n flush like they should along side the rocker panel covers (unlike many others that protrude out and just dont look right after the install.

Here are

Here are the retrofit instructions. My guess is Merc. does not supply these parts any longer due to age. You will have to call/visit a dealer to find out.

Part number 179 is the part you were asking about.

W163 door side step bars

I would like to install some on my 2003 ml500 inspiration edition, it has mud flaps so wondering if they still fit . Has anyone seen a w163 with that combination ? . I’ve also been waiting for a pair of OEM wheels to pop up at the local junk yards near me . The wheels that came with the car are not my style ….. I plan to put wheel spacers & do a suspension lift possibly body lift to accommodate bigger off road type tires on the OEM wheels I find eventually. And would like to install the factory hitch & brake harness if that’s an option still ?
