Cracked windshield?????

Caught a rock on the freeway and now I have a deep crack that cannot be fixed on my 2015 ml350. Windshield needs to be replaced but Progressive will only cover $800 minus my $500 deductible. The dealership quoted me $2,050. Progressive wants me to put an aftermarket windshield on my Mercedes that I have literally only had for 3 months lol. The dealership told me that if I put an aftermarket windshield on my car it will void the warranty for all of my sensors on/near the windshield. Besides, even if I go with the aftermarket windshield Progressive told me that I will still have to take my car to the dealership to get the sensors recalibrated, pay out of pocket, then wait 7-10 business days to be reimbursed from Progressive. I honestly do not know what to do. I've heard conflicting things about aftermarket windshields. Some people say there is a huge difference in quality and some people say they're literally the exact same windshield made by the exact same manufacturer just one doesn't have the Mercedes sticker on it. Also, doesn't the dealership sometimes outsource their labor to mobile glass repair shops anyways? Should I go with one of those and order the Mercedes glass and save some money? Got a quote from Safelite for $1,255. I honestly don't know what to do at this point. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

After getting your windshield replaced, suggest you seek another insurance company.

Several years past had an at fault accident. The damage on my car came to about $15,000. The other car required replacement. During this process my insurance company called me but once to assure me they would handle everything, which they did. This included replacing several aftermarket parts and reinstalling invisible bra. Three weeks later the body shop called to tell me my car was complete and ready for pickup. The work was flawless. Paid the deductible and went on my way. And there was no increase in my premium.

This is a textbook case as to how your insurance company should handle a claim. No mess no fuss. Unlike the huge hassle Progressive is putting you through.

Dealers almost always outsource glass work. Avoid them. Instead, seek a specialty glass shop and tell them what you want. And take your insurance company to the woodshed. Why? They are screwing you royally.
