Windshield washer fluid level sensor installation? 1638600021

Anyone have any suggestions on how to get the fluid level sensor in a new tank?

I'm working with part 1638600021 and so far I'm using petroleum jelly, silicon grease and a lot of twisting with no luck. Suggestions welcomed and appreciated!

It's a simple pull out-push in. Line it up and push on the elec. connector to install.

It's super tight - feels like the connector from the previous reservoir is too big for this one. The reservoir's are both OEM Benz products and so is the level sensor. The one thing I didn't try yet is putting the sensor in the freezer.

I was twisting it and using a dull piece of thin metal to compress the rubber and it was real difficult. Could be the older sensor has expanded for some reason but was hoping to not have to buy another 50 dollar one to find out.

EDIT I did find a 20 dollar used one on ebay which violates my no used parts policy on this MISSION CRITICAL PIECE. I guess I'll just get it. damn it.

The sensor part number has never changed from 99-2005.

Remove the reservoir and install.
