2002 ML320 Sport

The trip computer on my 2002 ML320 Sport shows an "optimistic" mpg reading, typically settling to 19.0 to 20.5 mpg by the end of each tank (aggregate mpg, not the instantaneous reading). My mileage/gas log shows that I'm running 14.5 to 15.5 mpg for each tank, about 4-5 mpg less than the trip computer is reading. I reset the aggregate reading each time I fill up.
My dealer says that this cannot be adjusted, but that seems unreasonable to me. Plus, I am wondering if having the Sport wheels/tires has anything to do with this... but a truck running bigger tires than the computer thinks it has should be reading fewer miles than actual, not more. Does anyone know if this can be adjusted? How accurate are your mpg readings?
Thanks.

Silly question, but you have got it set for USA and not ENG ? In ENGland our gallons are 4.55 litres , so you'd get the effect you see there. (the date would be month.day not day.month aswell)

On a 1750 mile trip the computer showed only .1 difference from my manual calculation. Pretty close and certainly close enough for me
