W163 Trip Computer issues
Hi guys,

The trip computer on my 2002 ML320 (W163) tends to reset itself every time I turn the car on & off.
When it's on, I'm able to set the date & other details and it seems to set it right. Then, once the car is off for a few hours, it disappears and displays random dates (indicating it's reset itself).

I know it's supposed to have a light on it, which definitely doesn't work. But my question is - would the light bulb not working cause any problems with the trip computer resetting?
Or, is the problem something more sinister?

Yes, the bulb being out is probably the cause. If when you tun on the ignition, and all of these segments do not display, then that is the cause.

The bulb on my trip computer has been out for the last 15 years, but rest of the whole trip computer has been working fine all these years.

Yep, that's how the display looks when I move the key to position 2 just before the startup...

Remove fuse #13 for 1 min. and then reinsert and see if that helps. If not then look for a used Trip Comp. on ebay.

Just open your fusebox cover. It has a schematic of the fuses & relay placements on its backside.

Ok.
So, pulled out fuse 13 for a couple of minutes. On reinserting, the dome lights stayed on.
On starting the car, the ABS warning light had come on - reset it using the steering wheel turn method (I guess this fuse is also shared with the steering angle sensor)
Set the dates on the trip computer - so far so good...
Drove the car around for 10 minutes
Back to the building & parked.
Locked the car & idle for 5 minutes.
Turned the car back on, no ABS warning light
But... the damned trip computer reset itself again.....
