Arrow VIDEO:2003 ML55, floored from 0-65 MPH

2003 ML55 AMG-Floored from 0-65 MPH

I recorded this today...it has 20" Brabus wheels with 295/45-20 Hankook Ventus ST tires, so it's not as quick as it could be, and also, I don't know if the road was slightly uphill or not... Still quick for an 5000 pound SUV though!! :p

Cool video. Took about 8 secs. to reach 65MPH.

Yeah, to 60 mph it's about 7.5 seconds..slower than the 6.4 secs Mercedes quotes!!But the big and heavy wheels are the culprit, and the road I was on was not level and most likely slightly uphill...

I noticed the ambient temp gauge reads 93°F. Was the A/C on? That would rob a lot of HP. Also 93° air is not condusive to making power. On a cooler day without A/C you may get very close to the 6.4 secs Mercedes claims.

No , I turned the AC off, and ya, it was very hot the day I recorded it...I will try to make another video on a different road and on a cooler day...the stock wheels and tires would help , but I dont have them anymore

Also, the tires are too "tall". You should be using 295/40/20 to maintain the same rolling diameter. Then, you should then see improvement in your times.

thanks Sin City! but,for some reason, Brabus recommends and equips size 295/45-20 (Yokohama AVS S/T) tires for the Monoblock IV wheel...and since Brabus is a performance tuning company, it seems like they'd put a tire size that would keep the stock diameter and preserve the performace of the car, doesn't it?

You would think so...huh? I am using 285/55/19s on mine but I should be using 285/45/19. I know you lose some torque by going with a tire larger than the stock rolling diameter.

Thanks for the video post. I like the sound of the engine when you floor it.

I don't have an AMG for my ML, but I know how AMGs go on my SLK, and I love the speed. Too bad there's not much opportunity to exercise it around here.

I noticed in the video the tachometer reading
above 5k before shifting to higher gear. Is that
normal for ML55? My ML320 shifts between 2K and 3K.

pcy---I was using full throttle(dont think you knew that), so yes, it's normal for it to shift above 5k .... when you say your 320 shifts between 2k and 3k, I suppose you mean normal driving with partial throttle, which is perfectly normal. Can you explain more though? thanks!

akbro,

My bad. I forgot that you were flooring :-)
I was talking about the normal driving conditions (shifting
around 2k-3k tach. reading).

My Buttometer tells me it is a little slower. I have been using a C320 Wagon the past week while the ML is in the shop and the wagon feels a little quicker. But then again, we have the C320 since New Year but only have 2k miles; motor still breaking in. I'm trying to use the "hell" out of the ML so I can get another vehicle. I plan to trade-in around 100k miles and I now have 70k.

This will be the LAST ML I will own. MBZ....you guys F'ed UP and I have now lost confidence.
