Unhappy KEY FOB NOT WORKING BUT SPARKS

I recently parked my car to get groceries, only to return and the doors will just not open with the fob. I opened manually with the key itself, went home to try the spare key and the same issue. The battery is new in both. Whenever i try the Mercedes reset the fob works just once and thats it. If i resync it it will work just once and not work again. Both the key and spare. Has anyone experienced this and whats the way out? Pls help

It is an ML320 w163 2000 model. Pleas help

1. Open the battery compartments on both the FOBs and use some contact cleaner/sand paper to clear oxidation on the battery contacts..these keys are getting very old now...just like the car..and oxidation on electrical contacts will create mysterious electrical problems.

2. If that does not work, you might have a SAM that is going bad, or again, some electrical issue with the SAM (could be oxidized contacts)....

I had FOBs that were not working, and a bunch of other electrical things also mysteriously not working in my 2000 ML...

The whole fuse panel was diagnosed with contact problems, high resistance and oxidation issues...after fuse panel replaced, all problems gone...except the FOB issue & one side turn signal randomly not working...i opened the electrical contacts on both, cleaned up the contact areas..and all problems gone.

Good luck!

You must properly diagnose the SAM first..in your case..

Your problem is caused by a faulty AAM, there is no SAM in W163 vehicles.

Interesting...my understanding was the w163s had a SAM and an AAM...and the security features were handled by the SAM, whereas convenience features by the AAM...but, Maj, you might be right. It is probably all integrated into the AAM as a single unit.

There are no SAMs in W163. Security features are covered by the AAM & ECM.
