Broken key in ignition

hey everyone,
so i broke a piece of my small piece of my key tip in the key ignition and im stuck without a vehicle right now. dont wanna spena ton of money trying to fix this right now to hire locksmith or stealership work as i have always worked on my vehicle myself. i have a few ideas so far like bypassing the key ignition and just installing a push to start button until i can get another key made to open the doors manually or change the tumbler key ignition thing with a universal one i purchased online that said it was for my model.By the way its a 2001 ml320 base.any help or ideas guys i appreciate any insight thank you in advance.
