I will agree with you I think they should last longer. I had a ML320 and I had to replace them at 29,000 miles, and then I got a ML430 sport with the brimbo pads and I had to replace them at 14,000 and then again at 28,000 miles. The funny thing on it was the rears would ware out before the fronts. The rear pads to me are too small but man would that ML430 stop on a dime. From what I have read from others is this is normal acrossed the MB line. Autogunner.

My 02 ML500 has 22000 on the pads (original). My recent State Inspection showed that I have 40 percent left. The ML320 that I used to have went 43000 miles before requireing a front only pad change, rears had 40 percent left at that time. Could it be your driving habits?? Of course no one would admit to that

As I mentioned, few if any will admit or even realize they are tough on brakes. You cannot compare one vehicle to another. Do you drive with both feet??

hmm, thats weird, im right on 28k miles in my 02 ml320, the brakes are in pretty good shape, i dont know what to compare them to, they brake hella better than all my friends cars. except for my other friends 2004 E500 4matic, that thing stops so fast, whoa!

That is what I was tring to say,the 320's are O.K. they last around 30,000 miles but if you get the 430 0r 500 sport with the bigger rotors, it will stop on a dime but the brake pads on the rear are smaller and ware out faster. I know several people that have had this problem but the warrenty only covers brakes up to 12,000 miles. it'n that something. Autogunner.

my first brake job wasnt even covered under warrenty. it was around $700 for the job..the car does stop better then the 320, but dam, does it have to wear out so fast. i will see how long this set last for.
are there any performance pads out there? i know they will eat up rotors faster, but how much worst can they be, compared to the factory ones 1 use..

First of all, the ML pads do not suck - there's no particular standard for gaging brake pad wear, not even minimum wear rate, since it's almost 100% dependent on driver behavior. They are a soft cmpound and work extremely well, in a very short time and create a whole lot of brake dust!!! I believe these pads are also environmentally friendly. The pads on the 500s wear much faster than those on the 320/350. It's normal (I'm not saying it's a good thing, mind you!!!!!). There are aftermarket pads that do the job better - don't wear as much and maintain same braking efficiency, and are environmentally friendly!!! Go to The Tire Rack's site to begin your search. You'll be surprised at what competition pads can do for you!!!

.
My Grand Cherokee lasted at least 66k. They still had pad when I traded it in at 66k. However, my ML with 69k had 3 brake pad change and 1 set of rotor change. Same driver and same habits.
