ML 270CDI suitable for towing ?

HI

I am just about to go ahead with the purchase of a 2001 ML270CDI here in Australia, and was wondering if anyone has had experiene using this vehicle to tow a horse float/trailer. The load will be around 2250kgs so it is within the manufacturer's specifications, but I am not sure how it will perform.

I am also concerned about the reliability of this 2001 model - there seems to be a lot of questions on the forum. 2002 and on seems OK, but how about the 2001 ?

ML 270 CDI 2002
Hi. I have a ML270 CDI and have used it to tow. I have not used it for that kind of weight, but I have used Landrovers to tow that weight. If you intend to do a lot of motorways or up hill work you may find the ML is not as powerful as you might like. If it is local work, small distances then no probs. Pulling away from a stationary position will be slow and painful, as the ML does not allow you to switch from Low Range to Hi Range whilst on the move. Are you looking at a manual or automatic version?

Have you looked at the ML 400 cdi??
