does it just snap out...or how does it come off? I want to take it off to paint it, but I don't want to break the clips/tabs if that's how it is held in place. Thanks.

If you are talking about the star itself, it twist out counter clockwise. It has three locking tabs, "hooks" on it when you twist it they will release and then you lift steight up, be careful because most of the time it will break, it is not really made to come off but it will. Autogunner.

I think you are talking about the big star in the grill right? If so why not just do a good masking job and aviod the hassle??

it really wasn't all that hard to remove the grille and the star...the emblem twists out(it's not all that easy to get it to twist but not too difficult either). I painted the star a semi-flat black...it looks pretty good, and it's exactly the look I wanted. I can post a picture later if anyone's interested in seeing what it looks like.

Help finding new Star emblem in ML430 grill

The large star that snaps into the grill of my ML430 is broken but I cannot find the replacement part anywhere. Its just a cheap plastic one. Is it available anywhere without buying a whole new grill? I appreciate any help you can give me.

Cheers,
Paul

Help finding new Star emblem in ML430 grill

Thanks for the reply, I don't have a dealer nearby so I was hoping to find one on the web but I search for quite a while and couldn't find a single thing. There wasn't anything that even referered to it as an orderable part.

I would probably just call a "local" dealer (whichever one is closest) and tell them what you need. They should be able to ship it out to you so that you don't have to drive there (since you said there really isn't a dealership nearby).
