Exclamation Timing Chain Tensioner Seal / Gasket (M113)

Hello everyone,

I have a 2003 ML500 with some oil leaks.

So far I have replaced all of the oil cooler seals.

Next, I am going to replace the oil pressure port seal (right below oil cooler).

I also want to replace the timing chain tensioner seal (next to the alternator) but I have a clarifying question to anyone who knows or

has done the job themselves.

My question:

When replacing the timing chain tensioner seal, am I able to simply move the alternator, take out the chain tensioner, replace the seal

and reinstall? Is there anything special I need to look out for when I remove the tensioner?

I have attached the WIS document I have been studying and the job seems pretty straight forward.

I would just like to see what anyone with experience has to say about this repair.

Thanks for taking the time to read!

- Max

Fairly easy. The seal will be attached to the Tensioner or inside the port, just pick it out.

Glad to hear it is easy. I am extra cautious with engine timing things.

Does the tensioner only install one way? Is there a guide or a notch of some sort? Or can it install anyway?

Can't you see the threads on the tensioner? It can only be installed one way. Stop with the silly questions.

It was not a silly question. I am trying to gain some insight from people who have done this repair before. \

Have a good one.

It wasn't a silly question at all, that was pretty unnecessary. Good luck with the repair and would love to hear your follow up on how it went.
