OBD codereader purchase, anything to know?

Got a deal on a new OBD code reader, $149 (Canadian dollars), compared to $249 (Canadian dollars) regular price, and just want to make sure there is nothing specific about them, as far as using on a 1999 ML320. Are they all compatible for this model for pulling codes etc? Any special connectors needed?
Any input appreciated.

yes any obdII code reader will work as its a standard for emissions now days. I use a Palm Pilot OBDII code reader but the types found at Autozone for $150 work just as good if not better and I'd say a definite must have... Some OBDII readers will also datalog information to help determine what the problem is beyond just a fault code. For example a you datalog a MAF sensor to see if the values are wacky.

Is there any specific reference to use in setting one up on your ML, as far as connections, push this, push that, along with codes? I have Alldata subscription, so should find the code info there, but as far as basic unit operation, and not screw things up is a big factor here, since my nearest dealer is 400 miles away (or anyone I would let touch my ML).

Update- I bought it, a great deal at $100 off the regular price.

usually there is a basic menu.... 1) Read Fault codes 2) Clear codes etc... If its a generic OBDII reader you might have a few other options, but those are the basic 2 that you will want to use.

Got mine yesterday! $168 at Autozone.

The port on my '98 is under the dash, close to the driver's door.

this is off topic, but since Autozone was mentioned, thought I'd let you know I'm writing their new theme today. I'm a composer by trade.

"Get it the zone, AUTOZooooooonnnne!"

The port on my 99" ML320 is under the dash (footwell area), drivers side.
