UV dye for detecting oil leak
Pretty sure I have an oil leak from my oil pan gasket but want to confirm. I was thinking of using UV dye to confirm it. Besides making sure it is compatible with Oil, is there any recommendations for doing this? Are all the dyes the same? Thank you.

There are 3 types of UV diagnostic dyes:
1- Engine oil, power steering, automatic transmission;
2- Coolant, i.e., radiator, heater core, water pump, and lines;
3- Air conditioning refrigerant system, i.e., evaporator, condenser, compressor, and lines.
Some are advertised as “universal” but that term is misleading because it only means that it covers, for example, all types of A/C refrigerants.
The dyes are inexpensive, and available at auto parts outlets, discount stores, and online — just read the description to be sure it’s for engine oil. If you don’t already have a black light, it’s available at those places, too.
