Fram Air Hog

I went shopping in Wal-Mart the other day and saw the Fram Air Hog air filter. I currently have 52,000 miles on my Ml430, when is it time to replace my air filter? Would one of these Fram Air Hogs be ok? It says it increases horsepower. I'm not too worried about that...I just want to avoid doing damage to my ML. Are these air filters worse than stock? Will they let large particles into the engine?
Thanks guys.

From what I have seen they Fram Air Hogs are pretty much the same thing as K&N filters. I'm, surprised it took Fram or for that matter any of the big mainstream filter makers so long to bring a competitive product to market.
